A new archival documentary film, “WTO/99,” places audiences in the line of fire, with stomach-churning images of police brutality as tens of thousands took to the streets of Seattle in 1999 to protest the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference.

In my latest for Prism, I connect the SPD's response to WTO, the 2020 protests, the origins of Washington State's intelligence Fusion Center, Trump's crackdown on anti-capitalist "terroristic activities" and the open ended question of how Mayor Katie Wilson will manage her own cops.

“WTO/99” protests offers lessons on resistance and police violence
“WTO/99” takes viewers to the 1999 WTO protests in Seattle, which faced a brutal police response echoed in the Black Lives Matter protests
