Axon Selling When And Where You Fly A Drone To Police
Two sensors, installed at SeaTac airport and Seahawks Stadium are monitoring almost every single drone flight in the Puget Sound region.
The GPS position of each drone home point, the make and model of the drone and each unique drone serial number are all being captured, cataloged and sold to law enforcement by Axon.
In July 2025, the Seattle Police Department approached Axon to directly integrate the live feed of drone activity into SPD's Real Time Crime Center. In response, Axon said that each drone sensor feed would cost the city $25,000 a year. Axon also provided a six month sample dataset of the sensor output for SPD to review.
Ultimately, SPD did not purchase Axon's Dedrone product, according to SPD Public Affairs Sergeant Patrick Michaud. "We went through IT approval (privacy and security review) pre-FIFA, but never deployed. This is not something we are using," Michaud wrote to HardPressed.

The sample dataset includes 108 pages of unique drone ID numbers, flight locations and analytical reporting such as flight counts per hour, time of day and altitude. Between January and July 2025, Axon's sensors recorded 10,372 individual drone flights in the Puget Sound region.
Axon's Dedrone webpage says the product is available in over 50 cities.
